Ever heard of a Declassified wine? ​ It's when the vintage was so good, and yields were so big, the world's best producers can't sell it all under their own label. ​ So it gets 'Declassified', and sold onto us in bulk. Long story short - you get a top class wine for a fraction of the price. ​ **Some towers cast very long shadows**. We are not at liberty to tell you who made this wine. We are, however, willing to say that this bottle comes from an estate so embedded in the mythology of Bordeaux that its name is essentially synonymous with the word greatness. ​ **A First Growth. One of five.** You can likely narrow it down from there. ​ The blend is classically Pauillac: Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, with Merlot providing roundness and Petit Verdot adding structural depth. The vines sit on the deep gravel beds and well-drained soils that make this corner of the Médoc unlike anywhere else on earth. ​ Fermentation is conducted parcel by parcel, with ageing in French oak - a high proportion new - for 18 months or more. ​ As critic darlings go, this is up there with the most treasured. **100pt ratings across the board** for the modern vintages, this is not one to miss.
