We'd be on the phone to some big Burgundy agent, and we ask for cheap Meursault. Cue an extremely disparaging (and extremely French) response.

"Oh you seely Enlgeeshman, ze Meursault never comes cheap".

There's a reason it sits at the top of Burgundy appellations. Famous, rich, full bodied, oaky Chardonnays that wow every single time.

If you're going to spend that much, go with Domaine Bizkot. Family run, based in Puligny Montrachet. Amazing feel for oak ageing - and this in particular has spent 12 long months in small French oak.
