Petrolo, Boggina C Riserva, 2021

Petrolo is a landmark producer for fine Super Tuscan. Their 100% merlot Galatrona still ranks among one of my favourite wines.

Some of this achievement comes from the (almost barmy) way they idolize wine at Petrolo. It takes on the divine, with the motto being 'All of nature is in wine, but wine is not only nature'.

Bòggina C comes from a single parcel - a plot of Sangiovese planted by Gastone Bazzocchi between 1951 and 1952. It's the pinnacle of their 100% Sangiovese wines, the third in a series of critically acclaimed renditions.

This spends 18 months in rigorously selected French oak, and is said by the world's foremost critics to impress from start to finish.

Most of the critic reviews are for 2020 given this is a brand new vintage - however 95 from Falstaff on this latest vintage indicates we're on course for similarly high scores.
