Ornellaia was founded by the younger brother of Marchese Rocchetta, founder of Tenuta San Guido (Sassicaia).

SO you best believe he caught the bug of blending Sangiovese with Cab Sav, and aging in little French oak barriques.

The younger brother stepped out of Marchese's shadow, going on to establish one of the holy trinity Super Tuscans, with Tignanello making up the third.

Being the third wine of Ornellaia, it reflects the philosophy and savoir-faire of the domaine and combine the softness of Merlot, the structure and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon and the vivacity of Sangiovese.

Aged for 10 months partly in oak barrel used for Ornellaia and partly in cement tanks, this Super Tuscan offers the perfect balance between tannic structure and expression of fresh fruit.
