At 36 months in oak, I guarantee this will be the oakiest white you've ever supped on. So if you don't like that sort of stuff, you can swipe right on through.
If you're wondering, yes it's normal for white Rioja to be aged in oak - but normally 6 months. So I was expecting this to be overpowering.
The surprise?
It is perfect. There's just enough acidity here to cut through the fattiness and texture the oak brings. In that sense it's similar to a Chard from the Cote de Beaune - think your Meursaults and Montrachets.
Where it diverges is the quality of the Viura - a savoury, herbal note that keeps you smacking back for more.

Too much oak for me personally
Decent white Rioja but nothing special
Not for me.
For a 2016 red of this complexity it's a bargain.
