Located in Burgundy, France, Maison Joseph Drouhin is one of the region’s most renowned and historic wineries and has a legacy dating back to 1880 when it was founded in the town of Beaune by Joseph Drouhin.
The winery is managed by the fourth generation of the Drouhin family, who are known for their commitment to quality and tradition. The vineyards are in some of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, including Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Chablis, and Côte Chalonnaise.
In the winery, Joseph Drouhin Santenay is macerated and vinified over 3 weeks with native yeasts and at a controlled temperature. The cap is plunged once a day until halfway through fermentation and pumping over is carried out once a day until the end of the fermentation. It then ages in for 12 to15 months in French oak barrels, 10% of which are new oak.
In the Southern tip of Burgundy, the vineyards of Santenay tend to get more sunshine, leading to more powerful Pinot Noirs than you might see elsewhere in cool climate regions.
