Ah, 2008. A simpler time, when the global economy was on the precipice of complete anarchy.
Also a great vintage in St Emilion. Perhaps not as stunning as '09, but drinking fabulously right now all the same.
A chance to grab an aged wine from a fabulous producer - an opportunity which normally sets you back over a hundred quid.
Sitting high on the plateau, overlooking grand neighbours and the Dordogne valley, Tertre Daugay has one of the best positions in Saint Emilion. Crafted under the care of consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, 2008 is rated among their finest.
It’s a near neighbour of three other iconic châteaux, L’Angélus, Magdelaine and Canon La Gaffelière, and is thought to have some of the finest terroir of the region. Hence in 2017 the owners of Château Haut-Brion decided to buy it.
Combining Merlot with Cabernet Franc, the wine was aged in part new oak to create a claret of considerable depth and complexity.
