You might see 'garrigue' show up a lot on red wine taste notes, particularly around the Med.

It's one of my favourite taste notes.

“Garrigue” is a French term for the wild hillside vegetation of the Mediterranean Coast. Instead of describing a single aroma in a wine, “garrigue” refers to a mix of lavender, juniper, thyme, rosemary and sage.

I particularly love it because it often describes the vineyard's surrounding ecosystem, giving the wine a real sense of place. This wine is Garrigue through and through.
