Of the world famous 1855 Classification, Pauillac has eighteen classified wines, including three of the five First Growths: Château Mouton Rothschild (since 1973), Château Lafite Rothschild, and Château Latour.
Pauillac lies between St. Estèphe and St. Julien, and perhaps that is why this wine is written into wine folklore. It doesn't get much more prestigious than this little hamlet.
Winemaker Albert Tiffon produces an unusually aromatic wine, with red berries and fine woody notes. Bordeaux Pauillac wines are rich, concentrated, full-bodied with grippy tannins and characteristic notes of blackcurrant, cedar and cigar box spice.
Pauillac, in the Medoc region of Bordeaux’s left bank, has well-drained gravel soils, which result in better quality wines; and those from Pauillac age extremely well.
