Canalicchio di Sopra , Brunello di Montalcino, 2017

Montalcino came into its own in the late 1880s when local producer, Biondi-Santi, discovered a Sangiovese clone in his vineyard that was darker in colour than the rest.

Its colour, however, was not its only attribute. It produced a wine with notable body, structure and length. He named it ‘brunello' meaning little dark one.

Biondi-Santi was soon joined by a host of world-class Brunello producers, one of which is Canalicchio di Sopra. Their secret to success? The grapes are sourced from two different vineyards.

The grapes from the more warmly exposed Montosoli site give the Brunello excellent richness, concentration and structure whilst those from Canalicchio provide elegance, minerality and finesse.

One of the original 12 members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, Canalicchio di Sopra’s Brunello is one of the finest produced in the north east zone of Montalcino.
