Avignonesi, Grifi Toscana IGT, 2020

Grifi 2020 is a fabulous example of a classically made Super Tuscan, in the order of the greats like Sassicaia and Tignanello.

A Cabernet Sauvignon blend, this is new oak-aged for 24 months. The Cabernet gives the wine an extra kick of depth in the mid-palate as well as a tannic backbone that gives the wine plenty of persistence and energy.

Avignonesi is located in the Montepulciano region of southern Tuscany , Italy . The estate was established in 1974 and is named after the estate's original founders, the Avignonesi family. The estate is pretty big - and the rolling hills mean that the winemakers have a varied selection of grape flavours and ripeness when choosing the blend.

According to Vivino it's a top 4% wine in Tuscany which really is saying a lot - considering how much top class wines gets made in regions like Montalcino, Maremma, and Montepulciano where this hails from.

Excellently pure, fresh, and juicy - with the legs to age for a very long time indeed.
